Update for Childcare Students & Workers
Posted on: June 23rd, 2015 by Admin
There was a big announcement from the DCYA last week. They have postponed the minimum Childcare qualification requirements for existing services to September 2016.
– Any existing service registered with Tusla or already participating in the ECCE programme, will have until September 2016 to ensure that all pre-school leaders have a Level 6 qualification and all pre-school assistants have a Level 5.
– If you’re already participating in ECCE, you will need to provide evidence that your staff are enrolled and engaged in training to meet the minimum requirements for their role.
– If you’re a new service registering with Tusla or starting the ECCE for the first time, all staff will need the minimum requirements.
As well as giving staff more time and opportunity to get their qualification, the department will also compile a list of approved qualifications by the end of 2015, and this will be of use to students, employers and the Tusla inspectorate. They also want to find a way to include Community Employment workers in the sector.
This update will be reflected in the new Childcare Regulations which are being prepared.
