POBAL Funding – Applications for Learner Fund 4 is open till 28th October 2016

Posted on: September 21st, 2016 by Admin

The Open College is approved to provide Pobal Funded Training for those who wish to complete the Level 5 and Level 6 Major Awards in Early Childhood Care & Education.

The Department of Children and Youth Affairs recently announced a 4th round of the Learner Fund. This fund is now open for applications and will remain open until 28th October 2016.  All Childcare staff  in Early Childcare centres in Ireland, are required to have at least a Level 5 approved qualification in Childcare and all Pre-school (ECCE) Room Leaders are required to hold a Level 6 approved qualification in Childcare.

2016 will see an expansion of the ECCE programme which will be made available to a wider age-range of preschoolers. This will result in additional demand for ECCE places, and many early years services will be planning to expand as a result.

Update for Childcare Students & Workers

Posted on: June 23rd, 2015 by Admin

There was a big announcement from the DCYA last week. They have postponed the minimum Childcare qualification requirements for existing services to September 2016.

– Any existing service registered with Tusla or already participating in the ECCE programme, will have until September 2016 to ensure that all pre-school leaders have a Level 6 qualification and all pre-school assistants have a Level 5.

– If you’re already participating in ECCE, you will need to provide evidence that your staff are enrolled and engaged in training to meet the minimum requirements for their role.

– If you’re a new service registering with Tusla or starting the ECCE for the first time, all staff will need the minimum requirements.

As well as giving staff more time and opportunity to get their qualification, the department will also compile a list of approved qualifications by the end of 2015, and this will be of use to students, employers and the Tusla inspectorate. They also want to find a way to include Community Employment workers in the sector.

This update will be reflected in the new Childcare Regulations which are being prepared.

Learner Fund – Childcare Courses

Posted on: April 2nd, 2014 by Admin

A new Learner Fund 2014-2015 has being launched by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA) to enhance quality standards in Early Years services nationally.

The Learner Fund will provide funding in the form of a training subsidy to assist existing staff working directly with children in registered early years services to attain the mandatory minimum qualification requirements that must in place by September 2015.

Pobal on behalf of the Department of Children and Youth Affairs are now inviting applications from Childcare staff who wish to apply for the training subsidies.

From September 2015 all staff in Early Years services will need to have full Level 5 qualifications, and all Preschool (ECCE) Room Leaders will need a full Level 6 qualification.  These minimum qualification requirements will mean that established services have a limited period from now to ensure that all staff will be appropriately qualified.

How do I apply for the training subsidy?

See the Pobal website for information on how to apply for the training subsidy.

There is also a Frequently Asked Questions section.

If you wish to speak further with any of our staff about this new Learner Fund please call us on 01 2061828.
