New Activites Coordinator course just launched

We are delighted to announce the launch of our next Healthcare CPD (continuous professional development) course – Activities Coordinator.
This Activities Coordinator course has been specifically created for The Open College by our Healthcare Tutors to complement our range QQI Healthcare Support Courses.
Summary:
This new and unique course will look at how therapeutic and recreational activities are of paramount importance in the promotion of resident’s / clients quality of life and how the Activity Coordinator plays a central role in delivering purposeful activities that stimulate residents and improve their well-being.
It will further explore the impact of ageing, social transitions associated with ageing and the importance of person centred care.
The course will allow learners to develop approaches to designing and implementing activity programmes in their work settings. The emphasis throughout this course is on developing positive communication skills, facilitating developmental activities and fostering meaningful participation with older people in care……..

New Dementia Care & Awareness Course just launched

We are delighted to announce the launch of our new Dementia Care & Awareness distance learning course. This CPD (continuous professional development) course has been created by our QQI Healthcare Tutor – Siobhan Lynch to complement our range QQI Healthcare Support Courses.
Summary:
This new Dementia course will look at how dementia is now both a national and global concern and why there is a need to develop awareness and understanding of the facts pertaining to dementia. This course will explore the neurology of dementia, the various forms of dementia and best practice in dementia care.
The course will examine how practice care can be improved, exploring current research evidence that emphasises the importance of putting the needs of people with dementia at the centre of care. The course will further address attitudes and stigma around dementia and some of the difficult issues that arise for people with dementia and their family carers during the dementia journey of care…….

Healthcare Support Attendance Classes Announced

New 2014 Classes announced for our Healthcare Support Level 5 Major Award – 5M4339.
Part-Time attendance Classes will commence on March 24th in Dublin and Cork. Options Include:
Option 1:
- 2 nights per week: 6.30 – 9.30pm (Tuesday & Thursday) and
- One full Saturday per month – 10.00 – 17.00.
or
Option 2:
- One full day (09.30 – 17.00) per week every Tuesday for 45 Weeks commencing March 24th.
