Special Needs Assisting places in our schools are still increasing.
The number of Special Needs Assistants has increased by 22%, from 10,575 to 12,900 since 2011. In December 2016 another 115 new posts were announced that will bring the total number of SNAs to over 13,000 – the highest ever level.
The total level of investment in SNAs is €429 million per annum. The number of special classes with over 600 new special classes opened since 2011, bringing the total number of such classes to over 1,100. The number of resource teachers has increased since 2011 to over 7,500 (a 41% increase).

New Course Launch – QQI Purchasing & Procurement

We are delighted to announce the launch of our newly validated QQI level 6 Purchasing and Procurement qualification. It is designed for a broad spectrum of people in business who would benefit from a greater understanding of Purchasing and Procurement in an organisation.
This course covers topics such as the key terms associated with procurement, Evolution of Purchasing, Specification, the Five Rights, Key components of a contract including the rationale of termination of agreements.
It will teach the learner how to use a classification system to rank procurement items in order of importance, how to implement tactical and strategic sourcing and be able to apply relevant criteria for assessment of suppliers and above all to negotiate effectively during all stages of procurement giving due consideration to ethical practices at all times.
In summary people studying this course will:
- Learn the key terms associated with Purchasing and Procurement.
- Be able to evaluate the role of Purchasing and Procurement in an organisation to include logistics and legal requirements.
- Be able to research Procurement in different sectors including public and private, in terms of tendering processes, specifications and e-procurement.
- Be able to explain the difference between rationalisation and development roles in Purchasing.

New Special Needs Course

In line with the recent Irish Government Announcement of 610 New SNA Posts from September 2015 we have just launched a new QQI Special Needs Assistant distance learning course that combines three of the most important QQI SNA Level 5 and 6 component Awards.
QQI Modules included are: Special Needs Assisting Level 5, Children with Additional Needs Level 5 and Special Needs Assistant Level 6.
